Honest Review: Huda Beauty Rose Gold Eyeshadow Palette + SWATCHES

March 24, 2018

Can you believe it? The world-famous, now virally sold brand Huda Beauty is truly cruelty-free! I got it gifted from Huda. Just kidding, I wish! But it really was gifted to me by one of my best friends and I couldn‘t be happier! And since the brand is cruelty-free, I thought it would be a great fit for my blog to give it a review.

This palette consists of 18 gorgeous colors with a range of cold and warm tones. Overall, the colors are highly pigmented and blend really well! Most of them have a creamy-powdery consistency and are easy to use with different types of brushes. Even though this palette looks like it is made for more glamorous days/nights, it is also very convenient to use for every-day, muted eye looks due to the huge range of nude shadows.

Foil Colors

The first 7 colors from the top left (Dubai, Fling, 24K, Rose Gold, Trust Fund, Angelic, #Blessed) are glittery foil colors. Believe me when I say: girl, they are pigmented! Finally, I can have glitter foil eyeshadows that work with just one dip with any brush! No glitter base or sprays are needed to achieve that look that I've always wanted.

As you can see on the two pictures below (without and with flash), they look gorgeous either way! The only exceptions are Dubai, Fling and #Blessed. Since they are darker colors, the camera doesn't pick up the glitteriness of those colors without flash as well as the other foil colors. You do see the glitteriness well in real life but if you are looking for film-ready eyeshadows, they won't be what you are looking for if you want to achieve a certain look.

Medium to Light Colors

The next four colors are medium- to light-colored matte shades. Except for Flamingo, those shades are also very pigmented and creamy to the touch. They apply and blend really well! You can pat and pack the colors on or use them to blend the crease. All in all, they are buildable and universal.

I personally am not a fan of Flamingo, since 1) it stands out in a negative way from all the other beautifully nude and mostly warm-toned shades and 2) it is very powdery and not as pigmented as the other shades. This is pretty much the only color in the whole palette that I won't be using at all. Sorry, Huda!

Moon Dust

Moon dust is a very special color from me. It is the only eyeshadow that is glittery but much more muted than the foil shades. It is a gorgeous color to be used either as a base for foil colors (such as Dubai, 24K, Trust Fund and #Blessed) for the colors to pop out even more. It can also be used to highlight the inner corner. For that, I would either use it just like that during the day but for an even greater pop of highlight, I would use Bae as a base and then apply Moon Dust on top.

Deep Colors

The bottom row consists of mostly deep, warm-toned shades. So basically: if you want to do a beautiful warm-toned smokey eye, just use the whole bottom row of this palette! The pigmentation and blendability of those colors coincide with of the rest of the palette of course.

But giiiirrlll, I have to shout Black Truffle out for a second! To be honest, not even real charcoal competes with that amount of pigmentation! But it still is very easily blend- and build-able. You can easy use it to cut and blend your crease without making the other colors look muddy in the process. It can also be used to create a winged eyeliner look or even to set your liquid liner. It is just universal! How did you achieve that, Huda?!

So this is the end of my short and honest review of the Huda Beauty Textured Shadows Palette (Rose Gold Edition). Overall, I am very happy that it was gifted to me, since most of the colors are soooo me! For an eyeshadow palette from which I can use all colors except for just one (Flamingo), I am very impressed!

EDIT: I created a makeup tutorial on a look using this palette. Check it out!
